Crisis Leadership Leading to Another Huge Election Victory

Park Geun-hye proved her outstanding leadership in a number of cases. The Grand National Party, then the ruling party, lost in the by-election for the mayor of Seoul at the end of 2011. The party was teetering on the edge: it could hardly expect positive outcomes in the parliamentary and presidential elections slated for 2012.

Park Geun-hye accepted the position of chairperson of the Emergency Committee, the de facto leadership position of the Grand National Party. On behalf of the previous party leadership, she sincerely apologized to the people of the country for overlooking ordinary people’s pains and neglecting to take care of their daily lives. Subsequently, she never hesitated to make the necessary structural reforms in the party.

She changed the name of the party to the Saenuri Party (New Frontier Party). She put talented young people and even those with opposing views in important posts in a bid to expand the party’s ideological spectrum. She took the lead in making genuine changes and reforms. As a result, the Saenuri Party won a majority in the National Assembly, taking 152 seats out of 300, which hardly anyone had anticipated before the votes were tallied.

It was the outcome of public trust in her devotion to the people’s wellbeing and their approval of her earnestness in making changes and innovations in the country’s politics.

Dubbed the Notebook Princess, she carefully listens to the people’s voices and reflects them in her policy proposals as much as possible. She constantly seeks innovations. She believes in reform politics. She pursues people-centered politics. She values on-site communication with citizens. These are her political assets. These are the reasons why people trust and support her against all odds.
